PARIS: Baloch National Movement (BNM) Chairman Dr. Naseem Baloch has accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of being a long-standing partner in the ongoing genocide, repression, and human rights violations against the Baloch nation, in a detailed statement shared on social media platform X.
Dr. Naseem Baloch stated that the history of the PPP in Balochistan is marked by oppression, repression, and the genocide of the Baloch people, tracing the party’s actions back to the 1970s. He said that under the leadership of party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, a large-scale military operation was launched in Balochistan in which thousands of Baloch were killed, countless political leaders and activists were imprisoned, and Balochistan was subjected to widespread state violence.
He emphasized that this was not an isolated episode, stating that for more than five decades these policies have continued in different forms and that throughout this period the PPP has stood alongside the Pakistani state and played a significant role in sustaining the campaign of repression and grave human rights violations against the Baloch people.
Dr. Naseem Baloch stated that when the PPP returned to power in 2008, it installed what he described as a puppet government in Balochistan, during which period death squads and the Pakistani military were given free rein to operate, while the policy of enforced disappearances and what became known as “Kill and Dump” became systematic.
He said that between 2008 and 2013, hundreds of mutilated bodies of forcibly disappeared Baloch were recovered from deserted areas, while thousands of people were subjected to enforced disappearance during the same period.
Dr. Naseem Baloch stated that today the same policies continue with even greater intensity, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests of political activists, restrictions on freedom of expression, and attempts to silence the Baloch national voice. He held the current PPP-led provincial government in Balochistan directly responsible for implementing these state policies.
He cited the recent imprisonment of Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC) leadership, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch and her colleagues, as well as the late-night raid on the home of prominent human rights defender Sammi Deen Baloch, the intimidation of her family, and attempts to fabricate criminal cases, as further manifestations of this continuing campaign of repression.
Dr. Naseem Baloch directly named three generations of PPP leadership in his statement, saying the policies initiated under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto continued during the presidency of Asif Ali Zardari and that today under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PPP remains a partner in the Pakistani state’s campaign against the Baloch nation.
Concluding his statement, Dr. Naseem Baloch said that while Pakistan presents itself as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, for the Baloch, Pashtuns, Sindhis, Kashmiris, and other oppressed nations there is neither democracy nor justice, and their political rights, national identity, and fundamental freedoms continue to be denied.
He called upon all oppressed nations to unite in their struggle for freedom, justice, and the right to determine their own future, describing such unity as an urgent necessity given the current reality on the ground.
