Quetta: On the anniversary of veteran Baloch leader Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri, the National Democratic Party (NDP) paid tribute to what it described as a towering figure of Baloch resistance, a guiding intellectual force, and a symbol of unwavering national dignity.
In an official statement, the central spokesperson of the NDP said:
“We honor our great leader, intellectual mentor, and embodiment of national defiance. Nawab Marri emerged as a beacon of democratic values, national liberation, and ideological sovereignty at a time when speaking the truth was seen as rebellion and demanding rights was deemed a crime.”
The spokesperson noted that Nawab Marri dedicated his life to awakening national consciousness, building ideological resistance against colonial domination, and instilling the spirit of sacrifice and self-respect among Baloch youth. Despite facing imprisonment, exile, and relentless torture, he never bowed to state power or short-term political gains.
“His silence echoed defiance against imperial domination; his ideological firmness rejected all forms of slavery and his imprisonment laid the foundation for a new chapter in the struggle for freedom,” the statement added.
Describing Nawab Marri as a central architect of modern Baloch nationalism, the NDP said he transformed the concept of nationalism from a mere slogan into a vibrant intellectual and practical movement.
“He closed the doors of power for himself, but opened the doors of awareness for Baloch youth. To him, politics was not a quest for power, but a journey of sacrifice and principle. He built a political philosophy rooted in the idea that the Baloch would rather break than bow.”
The NDP reaffirmed its ideological alignment with Nawab Marri’s vision, calling it a school of thought grounded in truth rather than power, committed to the national cause rather than state incentives.
“He was not just an individual, but the foundation of an ideology. Every step he took, every decision he made, and even his calm demeanor reflected the philosophy that no good could be expected from oppressors.”
Concluding, the spokesperson said that every conscious Baloch today carries forward his intellectual legacy, honors his resistance, and strives to fulfill his dream of a free homeland.
“Nawab Khair Bakhsh Marri is not just a chapter in our history, but a question for our future and the answer to our ongoing struggle.”
