The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has announced that its leadership, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, senior leader Bebarg Baloch, Beebow Baloch, and Shah Jee Baloch, has ended their hunger strike after five days in jail.
According to a BYC spokesperson, the leaders’ health had been deteriorating rapidly due to the ongoing hunger strike and their extended imprisonment of over a month, which had already taken a toll on their physical condition. The combination of prolonged fasting and extreme heat had further worsened their situation, raising serious concerns about their well-being.
The spokesperson stated that throughout the hunger strike, people from various sectors of Baloch society remained in contact with BYC leadership, repeatedly urging them to end their strike. Today, a delegation comprising families of forcibly disappeared persons, relatives of political prisoners, and senior lawyers visited the jail and personally appealed to the BYC leadership. They conveyed the message: “Even if the state does not value your lives, we do. Please end your hunger strike out of respect for us.”
However, the jail authorities only allowed family members and lawyers to meet with Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Shah Jee Baloch, and Bebarg Baloch. Following the meeting, the BYC leadership decided to end their hunger strike out of respect for the appeals made by the families of the victims of enforced disappearances and the senior lawyers.
