International Panel Legal Senior Advisor and Director of Prisoner Defenders Asia, Kartoğlus Bastimar, has stated that he will present the case of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader Dr. Mahrang Baloch before the UN Working Group on Detention.
Kartoğlus Bastimar, who works with the United Nations on cases of political imprisonment, said that the Pakistani government’s arrest of Dr. Mahrang Baloch is a violation of international law. He added that he will soon file a formal petition with the UN regarding this matter.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Mahrang Baloch was arrested by police yesterday during a protest sit-in in Quetta. She has been charged with serious offenses, including terrorism, sedition, and murder.
Human rights organizations have condemned her arrest, calling it a severe violation of human rights, and have demanded her immediate release.
