Mastung: Families of Enforced Disappeared Persons Block Highways in Protest for Several Days

Quetta (Monitoring Desk)
The families of multiple individuals who were forcibly taken by security forces in Balochistan continue their protest sit-ins in Mastung Kardgap and Kalat.

Members of the Sarprah tribe from Kardgap, Mastung, have been staging a sit-in on the Quetta-Taftan Highway for the past six days, demanding the release of their loved ones. The protest has resulted in the complete closure of the highway, with demonstrators vowing to continue their sit-in until their family members are freed.

Meanwhile, in Kalat, families of 35 individuals who were detained and subsequently disappeared following raids by security forces three days ago have blocked the Quetta-Karachi Highway near Kalat. While eight of those detained were released yesterday, the remaining families have vowed to continue their sit-in until all enforcedly disappeared individuals are returned.

Protesters, along with representatives of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, held negotiations with local authorities, including the Deputy Commissioner and SP. The families have put forward their demands, which include:

  1. Filing an FIR against the Frontier Corps (FC) within an hour.
  2. The release of all forcibly disappeared individuals within 24 hours.

The families have warned that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, the protests will escalate, leading to further disruptions and hardships for the general public. They have placed the responsibility for any consequences on the Balochistan government and Kalat district administration.

In their final remarks, the protesting families have appealed for support from the Baloch people and announced that if their demands remain unmet, they will expand their protest by blocking other key highways across Balochistan.
